A male orangutan stands 4½ feet high when upright, and may weigh as much as a man. Females stand only about 3 feet 10 inches at the most, and weigh half as much as the male. The arms are 1½ times as long as the legs, both hands and feet are long and narrow and suited for grasping, and the thumb and great toe are very short. The skin is coarse and dark grey, and the hair, which is reddish, is sparse, so the skin can be seen through it in many places....
